The SEM Coach Role

Strategic Energy Management is a holistic approach to energy management and decarbonization that considers people, processes and technology so that organizations can achieve long-term and persistent savings and emissions reductions.  We are seeking a Strategic Energy Management (SEM) Coach to help evaluate, support and develop energy and emissions management business practices with new and existing industrial and commercial clients. Our SEM Coaches have a good understanding of building energy systems and engineering practices and can support industrial customers identify energy efficiency process opportunities. Our coaches are experienced facilitators, coaches and change managers that are motivated to help teams succeed and take pride in their contributions to manage energy and carbon.

 This is a dynamic position that requires collaboration with a wide variety of stakeholders including: Prism staff and teams, utility program representatives, and client organizations’ executive management, operations and maintenance staff.

 Responsibilities include:

Facilitation and Engagement

  • Acting as coach, facilitator, educator, motivator and influencer.
  • Helping to develop, support and nurture clients’ Energy Teams.
  • Working closely with clients’ energy teams and individuals to:
  •  inspire and influence an organizational culture that embraces energy efficiency;
  • keep participants involved and accountable for their actions; and
  • coach participants on the change management practices required to incorporate SEM principles into their ongoing business operations.
  • Developing and delivering SEM content and training materials in dynamic and engaging ways in group settings or one-on-one, either in-person or virtually.

Energy Assessments and Analysis

  • Using Excel and PUMA Utility Monitoring (see www.pumautilitymonitoring.ca) to develop energy intensity models and tracking tools to quantify trends in energy performance. This work includes:
  • collecting and tracking client energy use information; and
  • analyzing changes in performance.
  • Helping participants identify energy efficiency, emission reduction and load management opportunities (through audits and treasure hunts).
  • Supporting project development with energy savings calculations.
  • Developing business cases for energy projects and supporting presentations for executive buy-in, including any financial analysis or supporting documentation.
  • Investigating incentive and funding opportunities for energy projects and assisting in the application process.

Organizational Change

  •  Conducting Energy Management Assessments (EMAs), using Prism’s proprietary tool, to assess organizational competencies and priorities.
  • Supporting organizations in the development of Strategic Energy Management Plans (SEMPs) and Sustainment plans for multi year programs.

 Project Management

  • Collaboratively working with the Energy, Electrical, Mechanical and Sustainability Team members at Prism to provide comprehensive services.
  • Ensuring timely implementation of project milestones for utility programs including:
  • drafting monthly progress and year-end reports; and
  • providing support for client internal deliverables.

Qualifications and Experience

Ideal candidates will have many of the following qualifications, experiences and competencies:

Essentials

  • An equivalent of at least 5 years’ relevant experience in facilitation, coaching and change management within the energy management field.  
  • A good understanding of energy efficiency, decarbonization and load management.
  • Experience delivering workshops in virtual and in-person settings.
  • The ability to influence people’s views on energy management.
  • Skilled application of Strategic Energy Management principles.
  •  Ability to bridge the gap between the big picture and technical details.
  • Excellent written communication skills for presentations, technical reports, e-mail, and other written documents.
  • Outstanding oral communication skills for calls, in-person activities, and presentations to groups. 

Desired

  • Experience in customer service, account management or project management.
  • Experience in delivering consulting services to multiple clients.
  • Experience in regression modelling and statistics.
  • Familiarity with industrial environments and processes such as lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.
  • Undergraduate degree, advanced degrees and/or other professional experience appreciated in business, energy, engineering or related field.

This is a 40-hour per week salaried position in a hybrid work environment with flexibility for working hours. The candidate must have the ability to travel locally with occasional trips to other BC communities and provinces across Canada.
