Structural Engineer
What is the opportunity?
This opportunity will be based in Toronto and the Structural Engineer will be working both on new construction and existing buildings projects. On the new construction side, the Structural Engineer will be responsible for the preparation of full structural design packages for curtain wall systems. Design materials will primarily focus on aluminum and light gauge metal. In existing buildings, the Structural Engineer will focus on both in office and field responsibilities for special projects which often includes structural design for unique bespoke requirements in all structural materials.
At this time, we are looking for a candidate interested in attaining a diverse knowledge of structural systems from curtain wall, structural aluminum, and glass, to concrete and steel beams, walls, and columns.
What will you do?
Façade/Curtain Wall Design
- Work in all aspects of the building envelope service with a focus on curtain wall design and aluminum materials
- Research of new products and systems as needed for the servicing of a portfolio of projects related to curtain wall and unitized façade design
- Review and stamp project drawings
- Review of submittals and shop drawings during construction
- Preparation of project deliverables, including but not limited to proposals, analysis results (structural calculations), construction drawings, specifications, and technical reports
- Review and approve design and details during all phases of submission
- Field review and other contract administrative duties as required
- Other responsibilities as required
Special Projects Engineering
- Review of existing structures to obtain as-built construction details
- Design and field review of temporary works required for building construction, providing site support during construction, and working directly with contractors
- Review of complete and in progress works on construction sites
- Attendance at construction progress meetings to provide consultation and updates to the project team
- Write reports based on observations, assessments, and key findings
- Prepare detailed structural designs including specifications, drawings, and sketches
- Coordinate and review of submittals and shop drawings during construction phase
