Internship Position Title: Cleantech Intern

Department: Office of Sustainability

University: University of the Fraser Valley

Location: Abbotsford, BC

Position Term: 6 months

Title of Immediate Supervisor: Director of Energy & Environmental Sustainability

Hours of Work: Full time (35 hours/week)

PURPOSE

The Cleantech Internship at the Office of Sustainability within the University of Fraser Valley (UFV) is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and passionate individual to contribute to the development and implementation of sustainable practices and technologies on campus. The intern will work closely with the Energy Manager and Office of Sustainability team to support and promote cleantech initiatives, research and analyze sustainable technologies and assist in the execution of sustainability projects. This internship offers valuable hands-on experience in the field of cleantech and sustainability while contributing to the overall environmental goals of the university.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in identifying, researching, and evaluating innovative cleantech solutions suitable for implementation on campus.
  • Collaborate with the Energy Manager and Office of Sustainability team to develop and implement strategies for integrating cleantech practices and technologies into university operations and facilities.
  • Conduct data analysis and research on the environmental and economic impact of various cleantech initiatives.
  • Support the planning and execution of sustainability projects, including organizing events, workshops, and educational programs related to cleantech.
  • Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of cleantech projects, tracking progress, and analyzing data to measure their effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to raise awareness about cleantech initiatives and promote sustainable behaviors on campus.
  • Contribute to the development of educational materials and resources related to cleantech, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends, research, and best practices in cleantech and sustainability, and share relevant information with the Office of Sustainability team.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Graduate of a post-secondary degree program related to sustainability, environmental studies, engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated interest and knowledge in cleantech, sustainable technologies, and environmental conservation.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to gather and interpret data effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Passionate about sustainability and committed to promoting environmentally friendly practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and data analysis software.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Between the ages of 15-30 (inclusive) at the start of the internship
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons granted refugee status in Canada.
  • Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations
  • Cannot be previous participants of a Science Horizon Internship Cannot be employees
