Advisor, Energy & Carbon Analysis
As an Advisor, Energy & Carbon Analysis on our Climate Change, Resilience and Sustainability team, you will have the opportunity to deliver top-tier sustainability and high-performance building services, managing projects to ensure timely and budget-friendly completion. You will interact with various stakeholders, facilitate green building certifications, and provide technical support on sustainability strategies.
Reporting to the Manager of Sustainability, this role is responsible for managing sustainability projects for clients in real estate, healthcare, government and other sectors. The projects will range in type, size and complexity, and the successful candidate will be responsible for managing project teams to achieve project objectives, timelines and financial expectations.
Ideally, you will be based in Toronto, but we will consider candidates from other location across Canada.

What you can expect to do here:
- You’ll be managing and delivering building portfolio decarbonization studies for public and private clients with a focus on climate strategy development, stakeholder engagement and sustainability planning for existing buildings
- You will be using a wide range of tools to analyze building decarbonization potential and to inform Net Zero scenario modelling across large real estate portfolios
- You will perform a full range of energy efficiency and carbon reduction planning exercises for individual buildings, working as part of a team to deliver on time and on budget by providing input on energy performance measures and capital upgrades improvements for the built environment
- You’ll provide leadership and support our team of analysts delivering decarbonization business cases, net zero transition plans and deep retrofit feasibility studies to grow their understanding of building energy systems, energy reduction opportunities, financial metrics and asset and portfolio planning
- You will be preparing clear and concise reports and technical documents and presenting findings to clients./
- You’ll represent WSP at client meetings and will manage project budget, schedule, and quality in alignment with project requirements while also liaising with client stakeholders and WSP’s technical experts
- You will resolve project issues through the identification of scope or budget risk and implementing mitigation measures.
- You’ll support business development activities, including contributing to proposals and developing scopes of work for our existing clients
What you'll bring to WSP:
- A university/college degree in Mechanical Engineering, or have similar qualifications combined with relevant experience
- A holistic understanding of energy flows, low carbon strategies, energy modelling or mechanical/electrical engineering, decarbonization strategies, and GHG emissions analysis for the built environment, in particular, how they interface with portfolio capital planning processes and Federal, Provincial and Municipal policy;
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, lighting and building envelope design
- Excellent communication skills -- you’re able to easily articulate ideas and build relationships with peers and clients through presentations and other forms of engagement. The ability to write clearly and concisely is particularly valuable, and something we would love to hear about in your application.
- Intermediate experience (five or more years) of relevant experience in energy benchmarking and energy management, audits and/or modelling, business case development, and project management;
- Knowledge of IESVE, eQuest or RETScreen energy modelling software (considered an asset)
- You’re a great team player and enjoy working as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team finding solutions for our clients. Experience in consulting engineering and working in a hybrid team environment are considered assets.
- You’re responsible and efficient – you know how to meet deadlines, deliverables and deliver high quality work product with strong attention to detail
- You’re motivated to continuously learn and improve your technical and professional skills and want to contribute to a growing team delivering cutting edge solutions
- Other designations conferred by Industry associations (CEM, PMP or others) are considered valuable.
- Must be eligible for Federal Government security clearance (individual must have 5 full years of verifiable, current and recent history in Canada, USA, UK, New Zealand and/or Australia).
