Iron & Earth is a worker-led, non-profit organization that was formed around the lunchroom tables of the oilsands during an oil price crash which resulted in over 100,000 oilpatch employees losing their jobs between 2015 and 2017. We realized that our skills were transferable to the renewable energy industry and recognized the urgency of diversifying into these technologies.

Our team welcomes Indigenous Peoples, racialized persons and people with diverse abilities, genders and sexualities, as well as, individuals with fossil fuel industry experience. 


Iron & Earth has committed to partnering with three Indigenous and/or rural communities located across Canada in 2023 and delivering up to six Renewable Skills Training Programs in those communities. These programs are both theoretical and practical, having an installation experience installing a small wind or solar energy generation system. The Training & Upskilling Program Delivery timeframe is between April 2023 and October 2023 due to the installation work that has to be done.


  • Juggle multiple program deliveries and priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment;
  • Execute on program delivery requirements, scopes, and objectives that align with each community’s unique goals;
  • Coordinate internal and external resources, ensuring program deliveries remain within scope, schedule, and defined budgets;
  • Analyze project progress and, when necessary, adapt scope, timelines, and costs to achieve maximum benefit;
  • Liaise with other I&E departments and assign roles and tasks to Iron & Earth team members, as required;
  • Capture/document overall achievements and learnings for the organization and for funder reporting;
  • Ensure all parts of an assigned project are processed, organized, and progressing according to predetermined timelines and deliverable dates;
  • Assist in assigning project tasks to relevant parties and check in for status updates;
  • Develop and maintain project performance databases that track overall progress and the accomplishment of specific milestones;
  • Monitor and assign resources appropriately to streamline project efficiency and ensure deliverable outputs are achieved as required by funding agreements ;
  • Report project outcomes and/or risks to the Program Delivery Director as needed—escalating issues as necessary based on project work plans;
  • Support contractor RFP process for Training & Upskilling and ensure contracts are put in place in a timely manner;
  • Act as a point of communication between Iron & Earth and external resources, including third-party contractors;
  • Deepen partnerships with outside resources—including third-party vendors;


  • Experience with Google Workspace and Notion 
  • Project Management training/certification or experience is considerate do be an asset;
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities;
  • Experience with managing a broad range of contractors (i.e. contractor types);
  • Previous non-profit experience is considered to be an asset.



Compensation is commensurate with experience.


Anywhere in Canada, as we are a completely remote organization.  Work hours should overlap with Eastern time zone.
