Organizational overview

The Transition Accelerator is a charity dedicated to solving Canada’s business and social challenges while moving Canada down viable pathways to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The Accelerator is seeking a motivated individual who wants to help drive the advancement of the organization’s mandate.

About the role

The Transition Accelerator is seeking an Engagement Specialist who will be responsible for cultivating and maintaining relationships with partners, supporters and identified stakeholder groups to ensure that they are satisfied and continue to deepen their relationship with The Transition Accelerator.

The Specialist is responsible for organizing and coordinating events to support the Accelerator’s strategic engagement objectives, as well as proactively seeking out opportunities to improve stakeholder relations. The Specialist should be highly detail-oriented and a skilled communicator, able to effectively listen to and understand the needs and concerns of a variety of stakeholders, and able to respond in a timely and professional manner.

Reporting to the Strategic Engagement Lead, the Engagement Specialist will: 

  • Execute Accelerator engagement activities including planning logistics, coordinating itineraries, and managing budgets.
  • Work with Communications staff to promote events through various marketing channels, including social media, email campaigns, and community outreach.
  • Periodically attend events to oversee and manage all aspects of the event, including registration, setup, and cleanup.
  • Develop relationships at the working level with external stakeholders, individually and as a group.
  • Discover and understand stakeholder needs, motivators, and obstacles.
  • Coordinate stakeholder meetings, including agenda development, guest list and breakout sessions.
  • Maintain a stakeholder relations management system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience, Qualifications, and Skills

The ideal candidate will possess the following experience and personal traits. Please note that The Transition Accelerator values diverse perspectives and will consider relevant life experience alongside professional qualifications when reviewing applications:  


  • Excellent attention to detail, planning and project coordination skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and self-starting qualities. Ability to work independently, establish priorities, meet deadlines and work on several different initiatives concurrently.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience or a combination of relevant experience and education.
  • Demonstrated event management experience and the ability to make progress with diverse stakeholders with unique needs.
  • Demonstrated experience relating to and engaging a wide range of stakeholders and managing stakeholder/client relationships.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills including demonstrated ability to prepare high-quality proposals, memos, and information briefings.
  • A well-organized individual, comfortable with multiple work streams, and following up on details.
  • Ability to operate and thrive in an environment where information may be incomplete and ambiguous, and there is not full alignment among stakeholders.
  • Ability to take a strategic plan to a tactical timeline and implement it.
  • Ability to learn, understand, and communicate a broad suite of concepts, including technical/scientific concepts.
  • Proficiency with the Office suite of computer software.
  • Proficiency in either English or French, with an ability to work comfortably in English. Bilingualism is a plus.
  • Comfortable with working remotely.

Location and Travel

Work will be conducted in a virtual environment. The successful candidate is expected to be available for work during normal business hours 8:30 am to 4:30 pm ET.
